CAPTURE BIOSHOCK 2 ON PLAYSTATION®3 and XBOX 360®

1. SHOOTING GAME PLAY FOOTAGE DIRECTLY FROM SCREEN

If you own a video camera, you may choose to shoot your game play video directly from your screen using your camera and a tripod. Set up your video camera on a tripod and make sure the camera directly faces the display at a 90-degree angle. The camera’s height should match the center of your display.

If you are shooting an HDTV or LCD monitor, the refresh rate of the display is most likely locked at 60Hz. If you are able to manually set the refresh rate of your display, (including CRT televisions and CRT monitors) make sure it is set to 60HZ. Likewise, on your video camera, manually set the shutter speed to 1/60 second. This will reduce or eliminate the vertical banding on the video you shoot. If your camera shoots at 24 frames per second, then set the refresh rate on your display to 48 Hz or 72 Hz

Suitable video camera/tape formats include MiniDV, Digital8, HDV and Flash-based formats such as MPEG4, AVCHD, etc.

Please make sure that your computer supports the transfer and editing of the specific format you plan to shoot with.

2. RECORDING GAME PLAY FOOTAGE DIRECTLY FROM TELEVISION/MONITOR TO VIDEO CAMERA

Many televisions and monitors support output of video and audio to an external device. If you television or monitor supports this feature, you may connect your video camera directly to your display via composite, component or HDMI. When you wish to record the footage on-screen, simply press the record button on your video camera.

Please make sure your television and video camera support this feature.

3. CAPTURING GAME PLAY FOOTAGE USING A COMPUTER AND VIDEO CAPTURE CARD

To obtain higher quality footage, you may capture your game play video directly into your Mac or PC using an internal or external video capture device. Most internal video capture cards plug into a free PCI slot on your computer's motherboard. External capture cards normally interface with your computer via a USB 2.0, Firewire or eSata connection.

Depending on the specific hardware setup of your computer and capture card, you may output video and audio from your PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 via composite, component or HDMI cables.

Please note that the PlayStation3 DOES NOT support HDMI output/video capture due to DHCP protection. You MUST use component or composite output to capture from the PlayStation3. The Xbox 360 DOES support HDMI capture.

Several companies offer video internal and external capture cards, such as Blackmagic Design, Pinnacle, Hauppauge and Matrox. Please make sure your current capture card, or one you plan to purchase, is compatible with your video camera, computer, and video editing program.
